The "Radical Republicans" of the Reconstruction Era passed the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. While discerning intentionality or motive is often awkward and unfair, giving the environment at the time, it is safe to say that each was passed with the "freed" slave or "freedman" as the Bureau was later to be called, in mind. However, after the "deal" of 1876, the former slave was basically returned to his ante-bellum status and the courts, including the Supreme Court, used each amendment to protect the "rights" of white groups and corporations, applying the "equal protection" clauses. In 2000, the Supreme Court disallowed a state supreme court to implement an election irregularity, which according to the Constitution, it not only had the right, but the obligation to do. The Supreme Court had no original jurisdiction in this matter, hence the proviso that the ruling could not ever be cited as precedence. If there is any entity that does NOT need constitutional protection it is global corporations. Should we abandon all hope of public funded national elections? If so, is our future already bought and paid for? - Harold Pulley

The entire scenario seems like a conspiracy or plot to see the demise of the Democratic Party and the failure of an African American. Also, the attitude of Big Business, Big Banks and Big Pharma is appalling; the few power brokers are using The American People as pawns, insignificant collateral damage. This is sad, really sad. - Entebbe
