In an orgy of Arab-hating Islamophobia, genocidal wars have gutted Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine ... 2. ... prompting a resurgence of Jew-hating which makes Hitler look like a benign cantor. In the past, when people lacked a reason to hate Jews, they manufactured one. Thanks to this latest obscenity in Gaza, future Jew-haters will not have to look far to feed their racism. Avnery has understated the impact of Operation Cast Lead (which should have been called Operation Cast White Phosphorus and Depleted Uranium). Arab governments may fall. But I fear there could be a 21st century Shoah, as justification for which the perpetrators will point to the 400 odd martyred Palestinian children whose shattered remains and tragic stories have been immortalised in graphic detail.
